Frequently Asked Questions about Menswear
Why Choose Tickled Pink? We are an award winning independent business established 21 years and committed to quality outfits and friendly professional service. Plus our outfits are available from our own stock. What you try on is what you get for your big event.
What is the normal routine? Usually the Groom, or Bride and Groom and sometimes close members of their party book an appointment, choose the style and colours, and and try on for size. Details are logged into our computerised system, so other members of the party can call in and be fitted. The colour scheme is often chosen to coordinate with bridesmaids colours.
What about the rest of the men? The menfolk need to book an appointment and come in at a time to suit them, as far in advance as possible but at least six weeks before the event. All they need to know is the Groom's surname - "Charlie" or "Chigger" won't do !
Who Wears What? Nowadays rules have relaxed a little. It is usual for the Groom, Best Man, Fathers and Ushers to be attired in formalwear. Sometimes Step-fathers are included or the Bride is given away by a friend or relative. Some weddings have more than one Best Man, some have two grooms. We are pleased to fit same-sex lady couples with mens' formalwear for their Civil Partnership weddings. Tickled Pink has kitted out weddings with up to 40 in formalwear so there is no limit. Highlandwear can be appropriate for those with Scottish or Irish blood or seeking a tartan theme. Modern tartans include an all-black basketweave. Top hats are only worn on the most formal occasions these days.
It is not unusual for the groom to wear something different from the rest of the party even if it just the neckwear or waistcoat.
Suppose someone is Working Away? We have a Standard Measurement Form we ask them to fill out and Fax back to give us a good idea of their measurements. We carry our own stock so changes can be made at short notice. Make sure you use a tape measure, your current suit size only gives us an approximate idea of your size. We have had pieces of knotted string posted to us !!
Make sure the measurements are up-to-date - shapes can change without realising it, so please be honest- even if you mates make an issue of it.
What About Price? All details are entered into the computerised system automatically totalled up, and a print-out/receipt provided for each or all the party, depending on who is picking up the bill. Our aim is to provide garments that are smart, fit well, and answer the couple's wishes in every detail.
Who Pays for the Hire Suits? It varies. Sometimes the couple pay for everything, sometimes families chip in, more often people pay for their own suits. Remember, hiring is tremendous value for money - as men will be wearing outfits valued at around £700 hiring at a fraction of the retail price, and all in perfect Tickled Pink condition.
Could I buy my outfit, so it is brand new for the Event? Of course. All our garments are available for purchase. Most of our suppliers offer a "from stock" service to be delivered new within 24 hours.
Suppose someone changes shape? It is not unusual for people to change shape - up or down a size or more. The first fitting measurements will be on the Docket/Receipt handed to you as a check. Children will grow, naturally, so we normally arrange a second fitting for them a few weeks before the event. It is not usually necessary for the adults to be re-fitted unless they know they have changed, or need re-assurance.
When Do We collect the Suits? Collection Day for a Saturday or Sunday wedding is normally Thursday. This gives the guests time to try on the suits and make sure everything is to their liking, and allows time for any late changes. For Friday weddings, Wednesday is Collection Day. For Weddings Abroad there are special arrangements. Each extra week adds half a week's hire charges.
When do We Pay? When your Order is placed we ask for a £30 Non-refundable Deposit. This is shown on the Docket/Receipt with the balance. Full payment is required 2 weeks prior to the event if paying by cheque, otherwise upon collection. We also ask for a £20 Security Deposit for each suit booked, which is refunded when the garments are returned complete and on time. Punctual return is very important for the efficient running of a mens' hire business.
An Accidental Damage Waiver Charge of £5 is included in the hire Charges to cover against minor damages, spills etc. It provides peace of mind for both Tickled Pink and the hirer.
Special Sizes Needed? Our suits sizes range from 20 inch chest to 60 inches. Leg lengths go to 36/37", and waist sizes up to 52+". Some suppliers will make Special Orders given notice. We adjust leg lengths to personal requirements and are able to tailor garments for personal fit if practicable.
The sheer variety of human nature means some folk have different sized feet, or different length arms or legs. We do our very best to accommodate these differences without fuss.
