Don’t believe all the negative stuff that appears in the papers about marriage declining in popularity. It’s a load of rubbish. Last year weddings held in the UK were up nearly 4 per cent. Add to that the number of ceremonies taking place among UK residents on foreign soil, and the numbers are back up where they were thirty years ago. Did you know nearly a quarter of weddings now take place abroad – and the figures are still rising. It’s just that the UK Office of National Statistics haven’t started adding in overseas weddings yet. That could all change though, as all passengers flying out from the UK are being issued with a short questionnaire about the reason for their trip. Intention ot Marry ? is one of the questions. Most popular destination – sunny Cyprus. It seems relatives have come to terms with joining the couple at their honeymoon location, especially now that cut-price package deals are available. And the chosen dress? -it’s the one the bride falls in love with of course.

The world must be getting smaller. Today’s brides think nothing of hopping onto a plane and flying in to choose their dress with Tickled Pink and jetting back in months later for the fitting. It’s been a hectic couple of weeks over the school holidays and Easter, and so far we’ve served brides from South Africa, Paris and Dubai. Just had a call from a lovely lady in Northern Ireland who can’t find her chosen Ian Stuart wedding dress in the Province. However it’s in stock here, so we are hoping we can help. There’s a good Jet2 or Flybe service from Belfast into Leeds/Bradford airport just an hour away from us.

First Wedding Fayre at Rossington Hall

Rossington Hall, Bawtry Road Doncaster will be hosting it’s first ever Wedding Fayre on May 27th- and Tickled Pink will be there. The imposing Victorian redbrick building has been refurbished in historic style by new owners Gary and Michelle Gee, and includes a room for civil ceremonies. It will be a chance for brides, grooms and mothers to discuss their wedding day outfits with members of the Tickled Pink team. Follow the signs to the Northern Racing College.

Tickled Pink suppliers were among the awards at the bridal industry’s “Oscars” evening. Among the names on the red carpet – Ian Stuart, Ronald Joyce, Romantica, Ellis and fashion label John Charles. Ellis celebrates 100 years in business with the third generation running the family entrerprise. As one of the industry “greybeards” Tickled Pink co-owner Dave Ketteridge was one of this year’s judges. Says Dave :” The UK’s bridal industry is the most vibrant and varied in the world – giving brides in this country the finest choice in terms of design and affordability.”

Leap Year Proposal?

Has there been a Leap Proposal in your life? Has the answer been Yes ? Well congratulations, it just took someone special to pluck up the courage. It was St Patrick the patron saint of Ireland that first said it was OK for a lady to propose, but the sly old fox stipulated it had to be on 29th February. There is a tradition that if the gent refuses , he has to buy her 12 pairs of gloves- to cover up the fact that there is no wedding ring on the finger.
