Talented fashion graduate Kelly Redhead, from Sheffield Hallam University has been working with the Tickled Pink Sewing and Design Team for two years and put her skills to the test by entering the annual Harrogate Bridal Trade Fair student wedding dress design competition. Amazingly she made the Top Ten from an entry field of 1500 students. Her innovative dress had a bodice of thin black neoprene sheet, teamed with a white skirt. Kelly didn’t win and we certainly disagreed with the judges as we thought her dress was miles ahead of the rest, both in design and especially as far as her sewing skills were concerned. A style-concious bride could have walked up the aisle in it the same day. Kelly’s not short of determination. For two years she took the train from Sheffield to nearby Hatfield Station and walked the mile to our shop. It’s one of our grumbles that too many fashion design students can’t sew well. Good luck with your career Kelly.
Wedding magazine, not quite as “posh” as Brides, or You and Your Wedding, reveal the results of their latest survey into the price of services. Wedding dress average came out at £929, and the Groom, he came out better value-for-money at £211 for his complete attire. Dearest on the list was Reception venue & catering, £5,308, followed by £2,391 for the honeymoon, and £1,611 for the engagement ring. The vital wedding rings averaged £711 for the pair. Cheapest item – dance lessons at £24.64. Surprised them all with that first waltz.
Remember the average includes higher prices paid by London couples. There’s’ more on www.weddingmagazine.co.uk. They’re about to conduct a new poll, with a draw for a £1400 stay at the 5-starred The Egerton House Hotel, London, www.egertonhousehotel.com
Don’t do what one of our Tickled Pink grooms did - we found his gold wedding ring in the pocket of his hire suit and he’d jetted off to the Caribbean, his wedding ring finger, unadorned. Wow ! Menswear manageress Tracey contacted his mum and she got a message to the honeymoon hotel. The day was saved ! Hooray. It’s always a story to tell the kids.
By the way, Tickled Pink is a past winner of the magazine’s customer service competition.
The range of Wedding Dresses at BHS in Doncaster really proved a big disappointment, compared with what independent bridal shops in town have to offer. Here at Tickled Pink in Hatfield we have a huge range of over 150 dresses to try on. Brides are looked after by professional and caring staff who only look after wedding needs. There are a zillion other things to choose from all under one roof – bridesmaids dresses, accessories, mum’s outfits and mens’ formal wear. Prices are pretty good too. Plus – and this is a massive plus – there is our in-house alterations service for that perfect fit. It’s a no-brainer ladies.
